Mission Statement

Mountains Healing Minds (MHM), a Colorado-based non-profit organization, emerged from a powerful personal experience. Inspired by a trek to Everest Base Camp in 2017, the concept was further solidified during a climb of Mount Adams in Washington State in 2019. Finally, on the slopes of Mount Rainier, the vision crystallized into action. MHM's mission is to empower veterans and trauma survivors by offering them hope, healing, and opportunity through a unique approach that combines the restorative power of nature with service projects and travel. Founded by a veteran who himself experienced trauma, MHM recognizes the challenges faced by this community and seeks to create positive change through a combination of adventure, global connection, and environmental stewardship.

Service to others is an important part of who I am. When I saw how much the healing power of nature, service to others, and travel helped me I knew I had to get started.  Not only for me but for others. I have experienced firsthand the difference that this transformative journey can make in life. It is an honor to be able to help those who have been through a lot, and I will continue to do whatever I can to support their journey toward self-actualization using our unique approach.

Mountains Healing Minds (MHM) cultivates a supportive community for veterans and trauma survivors, calling them "Visionaries" – a term that functions as a powerful mental switch.  More than just a program title, "Visionaries" reframes an individual's self-perception and ignites the potential for positive change. By adopting this mantle, participants are encouraged to shed past limitations and see themselves as active creators of their futures. It's a deliberate nudge away from dwelling on past traumas and towards embracing a proactive, solution-oriented mindset. This shift in mentality, a crucial first step in the personal transformation journey, is fostered by MHM through travel experiences. The program offers participants the chance to develop new skills, forge meaningful friendships, and gain a broader worldview. MHM recognizes the transformative power of stepping outside one's comfort zone and into a new culture. By serving others in unfamiliar environments, Visionaries embark on a journey of self-discovery and personal growth. Immersing themselves in diverse customs and witnessing different ways of life allows them to re-evaluate their own experiences and reimagine their futures. MHM empowers Visionaries to become active agents of change, both in their own lives and in the world around them.
